Standings
How the Nigeria Premier Football League standings work
The Nigeria Premier Football League standings rank 20 clubs by points: three for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. Every club plays 38 matches, one at home and one away against each of the other 19, from late August through to the following summer.
The P column counts matches played, which matters more in the NPFL than in most leagues. Rescheduled games and clubs away on CAF duty leave sides with one or two matches in hand, so a club in sixth can sit closer to the top than the points column suggests.
Goal difference sits next to the points. In a league where many games finish 1-0 or 1-1, one heavy home win can lift a club several places on goals alone.
Home and away
Home advantage in the NPFL
Home advantage in the NPFL is stronger than in any of the big European leagues. Long road trips between Lagos, Kano, Jos and Maiduguri, packed local grounds and pitches the home side knows well all lean towards the hosts, and the season numbers show it.
Home wins count every NPFL result since August, with draws and away wins next to them. A club that collects points on the road is rare, so an away win in the form column is worth more than it looks.
The same pattern shapes the table. Clubs near the top usually win almost every home match and pick up draws away, while sides near the bottom drop points at their own grounds.
Form
NPFL form and the next matchday
NPFL form appears as the last five results, oldest first, built from every score recorded this season. WWDLW means three wins, a draw and a defeat across those five matches.
Form and the table together tell the story of a season better than either alone. A club in mid-table with four wins in a row is moving, while a leader with two defeats in five is there to be caught.
The next NPFL fixtures follow, grouped by day with every kick-off in WAT and the matchday number on each heading.
NPFL standings FAQ
How many clubs play in the NPFL?
20 clubs. Each meets the other 19 home and away, so a season runs to 38 matchdays.
When do NPFL matches kick off?
Most rounds are played on Sunday at 16:00 WAT, with some midweek rounds on Wednesday and the odd Saturday or Monday fixture.
How often is the NPFL table updated?
The standings are read again every 30 minutes on match days, so a Sunday result moves the table by the evening.
Where can I find NPFL fixtures and results?
The NPFL fixtures page lists the next matchdays with kick-offs in WAT and the scores from recent rounds, grouped by matchday.
