Standings

How the Premier League table is decided

The Premier League table ranks clubs by points: three for a win, one for a draw and none for a defeat. Every club plays 38 matches, one home and one away against each of the other 19.

When two clubs finish level on points, goal difference separates them first, then goals scored. A side on 60 points with a +25 goal difference sits above another on 60 with +18, whatever happened between them.

That order matters late in the season, when one goal in May can move a club across the line into Europe or out of the relegation places.

Zones

Premier League places that matter at the top and bottom

Premier League places at the top lead into European football the following season, and the coloured edge on each row shows which competition that place currently points to. The colours come from the league’s own qualification notes, so they shift when cup results change the picture.

At the other end, the bottom three are relegated to the Championship. Nigerian fans following a struggling club can read the gap to 17th place in the GD and Pts columns at a glance.

A newly promoted club usually measures its season by the gap to 17th. Ten points clear in March is safe ground in most seasons, while three points clear leaves the job unfinished.

Form

Premier League form and next fixtures

Premier League form appears as the last five results, oldest first, built from every score recorded this season. WWDLW means three wins, a draw and a defeat across the last five matches.

Form and the table together tell the story of a season better than either alone. The next Premier League fixtures below carry their kick-off times in WAT, and a Prediction button appears on each match once its page is written.
