League phase

How the Champions League table works

The Champions League table replaced the old groups of four in 2024. All 36 clubs sit in one league, and each plays eight matches against eight different opponents, four at home and four away.

Three points for a win and one for a draw build the table. Level clubs are split by goal difference, then goals scored, then away goals scored, so a 4-1 win counts for more than a 1-0.

Because clubs face different opponents, the table rewards a strong draw as much as strong form. Every club plays all eight matches before the order is final.

Their eight opponents are drawn in late August.

Places

Champions League places: round of 16, play-offs and out

Champions League places split the table into three bands. The top eight go straight into the round of 16. Ninth to 24th play a two-legged knockout play-off for the other eight places.

Clubs from 25th to 36th are eliminated, with no drop into the Europa League. The coloured edge on each row shows which band that position currently sits in.

The knockout play-off pairs clubs from the two halves of that band, so finishing ninth instead of 24th brings an easier opponent and the second leg at home. Every position in the table therefore has a value until the last matchday.

Form

Champions League form and next matches

Champions League form shows each club’s last five results in this competition, oldest first. With only eight league-phase matches, a WWLDW run covers most of a club’s campaign so far.

Matchweeks fall on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with kick-offs at 17:45 and 20:00 WAT in the European autumn and 18:45 and 21:00 in winter. The next matches follow, each with a Prediction button once its page opens.

The full list of coming matches, with every kick-off in WAT, sits on the Champions League fixtures page. With eight opponents drawn for each club, two sides on the same points can have faced very different schedules.
