How the Serie A table is decided
The Serie A table gives three points for a win and one for a draw over 38 rounds. Level clubs are split by their meetings with each other first, so head-to-head points and goal difference count before the overall goal difference column.
Italian football is tight at both ends in most seasons. A 1-0 win in a direct meeting can decide a European place in May even if the two clubs finish with the same points and similar goal records.
Until clubs have met twice, the table falls back on overall goal difference, which is what the GD column shows here.
Zones
Serie A places for Europe and Serie B
Serie A places at the top lead to the Champions League, the Europa League and the Conference League, and the coloured edge on each row follows Lega Serie A’s notes for the season.
Three clubs drop into Serie B. With 20 sides and plenty of low-scoring matches, the gap between 15th and 18th can be only a few points, so the bottom of this table changes more week to week than the top.
Italian clubs also qualify for Europe through the Coppa Italia, which can shift a European place down the table. The key under the table names each zone in use this season.
Form
Serie A form and next fixtures
Serie A form is the last five results for each club, oldest first, built from every score recorded this season. Italian sides draw often, so a run such as DDWDD is common and points to a hard team to beat rather than a poor one.
Next Serie A fixtures follow below in WAT. Lunchtime matches in Italy start around 11:30 or 12:30 in Lagos, and each fixture gains a Prediction button when its page opens.
